Advice for placement staff:
ØThe major purpose of the Community Service program is to allow students to develop skills and contribute in a positive way to your school or organisation.
ØWhile UHS students are expected to take initiative, it is not helpful to continue a ‘sink or swim’ approach if they are clearly sinking. Staff should provide clear guidance and make clear any expectations of students where possible.
ØTamar Spatz will contact you if we know in advance that one of our students will be absent. If a student is absent unexpectedly, please email Tamar on: spatz.tamar.t@edumail.vic.gov.au
ØShould there be any issues you or any other staff member wishes to discuss, please contact Tamar Spatz, Chris McCaw, or Carly Reggars on 9347-2022.
Expectations for UHS students:
ØArrive on time.
ØText or call Tamar, Chris or Carly before school (or earlier) if you know you will not be able to go to Community Service for any reason.
ØNo gum, ipods or computers, except as directed.
ØStudents are expected to show initiative, and be respectful of the teacher / staff member’s primary duty is to their class, children, shop etc.
ØVisiting UHS students should not discipline primary students or infants in any way, other than to let them know that they will be reporting the behaviour to the classroom teacher or supervisor.
ØIf UHS students have concerns/complaints regarding their placement, they should first consult their immediate superior (eg. the classroom teacher if at a school) and secondly their Galileo home group teacher. If necessary, the Galileo home teacher may contact your placements directed contact person.
ØShould UHS students wish to do any projects with their placement beyond the Community Service component (eg. an action project), they should first discuss the idea with their Galileo home teacher. With approval from UHS, the student may then discuss their idea with their placement supervisor.
